CHICAGO NEEDS A CHANGE
“homicides are up by 38 percent from a year ago, and shootings have increased as well, even as killings have held steady or dropped in New York, Los Angeles and some other cities. As of June 17, 240 people had been killed here this year, mostly in shootings, 66 more deaths than occurred in the same period in 2011.” (Davey)
The rising number of crime in Chicago has been significantly high over the past few years and now there is an urgency for change. Chicago needs to realize the lack of police officers that are on duty and work on hiring more. There has been a loss of over 700 due to retirement, and since then their gaps have not yet been filled. This has given the streets of Chicago to a crime related nature which is unacceptable for the city. NOW is the time for all of us to speak up about the concern for our safety and reiterate the demand for more police officers. Without a change, who knows where Chicago will be in five years.
